The University of South Dakota Coyotes swimming and diving teams are set to compete in the Summit League Championships, which will take place from February 18 to February 21 in Iowa City, Iowa. The event will be held at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with subsequent days starting at 10:00 a.m. Live streaming and results are available for purchase through Midco SLN and Meet Mobile. Tickets can be purchased online.
South Dakota will face conference opponents including Denver, Eastern Illinois, Omaha, South Dakota State, Southern Indiana, and St. Thomas during the four-day meet.
Several athletes from South Dakota have been highlighted ahead of the championships:
– Taylor Buhr leads the Summit League in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.75.
– Mady Schmidt has achieved an NCAA Zone Cut standard in the 3-meter dive with a score of 285.25.
– Grace Schultz holds one of the top times nationally in the NCAA for the 100 individual medley at 57.58 seconds.
– Nick Rounds leads the league in both the 100 freestyle (43.83) and 100 backstroke (46.33), and has met an NCAA standard in the 50 freestyle (18.87). He also recorded two Summit League Top 10 All-time performances in both the 100 butterfly (46.92 – No. 5) and the 100 backstroke (46.33 – No. 6).
– Joaquin Contreras-Fallico leads in the Summit League for the 200 backstroke (1:44.20) and was last year’s champion in the 100 backstroke.
– Alex Parkinson currently holds first place in league standings for the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:22.87.
– Charlie Matthews is an NCAA Zone Qualifier for men’s one-meter diving with a score of 306.68.
– Maddox Mork qualified for NCAA Zones in men’s three-meter diving with a score of 332.75.
The schedule includes preliminary events each morning followed by finals sessions later each day, concluding Saturday evening with awards.
