South Dakota men’s basketball head coach Eric Peterson announced on Apr. 16 the addition of Cade Kelderman to the team’s roster for the 2026-27 season. Kelderman, a guard from Waukee, Iowa, previously played three seasons at Iowa State.
The signing brings an experienced player to South Dakota’s lineup. During his time with the Cyclones, Kelderman appeared in 45 games and recorded a total of 34 points, 23 assists, and 15 steals. He achieved career highs in both points (7) and assists (7) in a game against Alcorn this past season.
Kelderman’s academic achievements include being named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2025 and earning a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team in 2024. His high school career at Waukee Northwest saw him start all games during his junior and senior years, leading his team to consecutive state tournament appearances and reaching the championship game in 2023.
As a senior in high school, Kelderman averaged 16.7 points per game along with notable contributions in assists (5.8), rebounds (3.4), and steals (1.5). He also demonstrated strong shooting skills by making nearly half of his three-point attempts over two seasons and maintaining an assist-to-turnover ratio of more than two-to-one.
Peterson said that bringing Kelderman onto the roster adds depth to their backcourt as they prepare for future competition.
