South Dakota women’s basketball will travel to Grand Forks to face North Dakota on Wednesday night as the regular season nears its conclusion. The Coyotes are set to play their first road games since early February, with matchups against North Dakota and South Dakota State.
The game will be broadcast on Midco Sports and the Summit League Network powered by Midco Sports Plus. Fans can also listen to the radio broadcast on KVTK 1570 AM with Jerry Palleschi providing commentary.
South Dakota recently saw a nearly month-long winning streak end with a loss to North Dakota State, which secured the top seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament. South Dakota and South Dakota State are currently competing for the tournament’s No. 2 seed.
Angelina Robles has delivered strong performances throughout February, averaging 19.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists over five games. She has achieved two more 20-point games last week against Omaha and North Dakota State, bringing her season total to eleven such performances. Molly Joyce has also contributed significantly this month, averaging 15 points per game and shooting 45.5% from three-point range.
South Dakota is unique in the conference for having two players ranked among the top six scorers during Summit League play: Robles is fourth at 16.7 points per game while Joyce ranks sixth at 15.4 points per game. Robles leads all players in conference play with an average of 3.7 assists per game.
Wednesday’s contest marks the 92nd meeting between South Dakota and North Dakota, dating back to the 1976-77 season. Since becoming Summit League rivals in 2018-19, South Dakota holds a 14-2 record against North Dakota and aims to sweep the season series for the sixth time in eight seasons as league foes.
North Dakota is led by first-year head coach Dennis Hutter and currently holds a 3-11 record in conference play, placing them eighth but with potential to improve their seeding before tournament time. The Fighting Hawks lead the Summit League in three-point attempts but have converted only 27% of those shots this season—the lowest rate in the conference. They are effective on defensive rebounds, ranking third in the league and twenty-sixth nationally.
The Coyotes have maintained consistent success within their conference since joining it in 2011, capturing five regular-season titles and four tournament championships while finishing outside of the top four only once.
South Dakota continues its tenth season at Sanford Coyote Sports Center (SCSC), where they have compiled a home record of 119-27 since opening in 2016 and remain undefeated against both North Dakota (9-0) and Kansas City (5-0) at that venue.
Following significant roster changes due to transfer portal activity after last season—over 1,500 women’s basketball players entered nationwide—USD brought in nine transfers from Division I programs across six states.
Nationally recognized as one of college basketball’s mid-major teams, South Dakota is currently ranked No.22 in College Insider’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll after re-entering at No.24 two weeks ago; they have been ranked as high as No.11 since joining Division I rankings.
Several Coyotes are approaching individual milestones this year: Molly Joyce, Angelina Robles, and Josie Hill have surpassed career totals of one thousand collegiate points; Patience Williams is nearing fifty career blocks; Olivia Moore is ten points away from reaching three hundred NCAA career points.
On rebounding, USD ranks among national leaders—currently thirtieth overall—and tops both offensive (12.2 per game) and defensive (29.1 per game) rebounding categories within their league.
Defensively, South Dakota leads the Summit League by holding opponents to an average of just over fifty-seven points per game while ranking among national leaders for field goal percentage defense (34.8%), three-point percentage defense (27.3%), scoring margin (+14.2), and other key metrics.
