MITCHELL – The Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Music at Dakota Wesleyan University and the Glenn E. and Lois Soladay Estate present a recital featuring the Cehili Trio (pronounced see-hee’-lee) on Wednesday, Mar. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Sherman Center. Admission is free.
Formed in 2015, Cehili’s live performances are known for their musical depth without being overly formal. Shu Li, piano, William Cedeño, flute, and Christopher Hill, clarinet, are each fine soloists in their own right; combined, they are a musical force. The brilliant sound of the flute, the vibrancy of the clarinet, and the depth of the piano give this trio a flexibility that is difficult to match with any other ensemble.
Hill is in his 36th season as the principal clarinetist of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. He has played nationally and internationally with many orchestras and serves as the conductor or the Sioux Falls Municipal Band. Li currently serves as Assistant Professor of Piano at Augustana University and is an active soloist and chamber musician who has performed throughout the United States, China, and Europe. Principal flutist of the South Dakota Symphony, Cedeño started his musical career at the age of 9 in the world renown Venezuelan program “El Sistema.” He performs regularly with the Minnesota orchestra and Fort Worth symphony as well as the London symphony orchestra.
Pieces by Gabriel Faure, Camille Saint-Saens, Jennifer Higdon, Ernest Bloch, Malcolm Arnold and Guillaume Connesson will be performed.
The next event of the Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Music is the annual Spring Concert on Sunday, Apr. 23, at 4 p.m. in the Sherman Center.
